Our Committees

As a not for profit organisation GRO relies on its memberships dedication to the industry to drive both GRO and the industry forward. To facilitate the development of Codes of Practice, guidance documents and to work with our Affiliated organisation we rely on the voluntary involvement of our members on one of two standing committees.

Technical Committee

The Technical Committee works with the Marketing Committee to deliver technical publications and information for the membership, wider green roof industry, clients, specifiers and developers.

Every member of GRO has the right to nominate one representative to the Technical Committee. The Technical Committee elects a Chair and a Vice-Chair every 3 years.

The Technical Committee can create ad-hoc committees to focus on specific topics.

Chair for Technical Committee: Keith Hills, Eco Green Roofs Ltd

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee considers and oversees all marketing and promotional activities of the association and consists of 6 members elected from membership. Committee members sit for a period of 3 years.

Chair for Marketing Committee: Maggie Fennell, Boningale Ltd

Technical Help

Jeff Sorrill is a widely recognised UK green roof expert with a background in landscaping and graduate education. Jeff established the Green Roof Centre at the University of Sheffield in 2008, with the Centre’s remit being to strengthen the use of green roofs across the UK through independent robust research. In 2009 the Green Roof Centre gained funding from the European Commission to write a green roof code of best practice for the UK. In collaboration with the Green Roof Organisation, which at the time sat within the NFRC, the first GRO Green Roof Code of Best Practice was published in 2011. Jeff continues to be involved with many green roof projects of all different scales and has recently edited the anniversary edition GRO Code 2021.
